# Set Up Your SurgeRank Account, Domain, and Brand Profile

> Create your SurgeRank account, connect your domain, configure your brand profile, and invite teammates to start tracking AI visibility.

Your account setup is the foundation everything else in SurgeRank is built on. The brand profile you create here — your domain, your brand name, your category, and any product aliases — is what SurgeRank uses to recognize citations across six AI engines, seed your initial prompt library, and benchmark you against competitors. Taking a few minutes to configure it accurately will make every downstream feature more precise and useful.

## Create an account

Visit [surgerank.ai/auth](https://surgerank.ai/auth) and enter your email address and a password to create your account. You can also sign in with Google or Microsoft if you prefer single sign-on. Before completing signup, you'll be asked to agree to SurgeRank's Terms of Service and Privacy Policy — both are linked on the signup screen.

Every new account begins a **7-day free trial** that includes full access to all platform features. No credit card is required to start your trial, and you won't be prompted for payment information until the trial period ends.

<Note>
  If your company already has a SurgeRank workspace, ask your Admin to invite you via **Settings → Team** instead of creating a new account. Joining an existing workspace gives you immediate access to your team's tracked prompts, competitors, and historical data.
</Note>

## Connect your domain

After your account is created, the onboarding screen prompts you to enter your primary domain. Enter your root domain without a path — for example, `yourcompany.com` rather than `yourcompany.com/blog`. Click **Analyze** to start the crawl.

SurgeRank will crawl your site to:

* **Map your existing pages** so it can match AI citations to specific content you've already published
* **Identify topics you already rank for** to build an accurate picture of your current authority signals
* **Find prompts where buyers ask about your category** so your initial prompt library reflects real purchase-intent questions

The crawl typically completes within a few minutes. You'll see a progress indicator on the dashboard and receive an email notification when your baseline report is ready.

<Tip>
  You can connect additional domains later — for example, a regional subdomain or a recently acquired brand — from **Settings → Domains**. Each domain gets its own visibility score and prompt tracking, but all share the same team workspace.
</Tip>

## Configure your brand profile

Once your domain is connected, navigate to **Settings → Brand Profile** to complete your configuration. Getting these fields right ensures SurgeRank correctly identifies mentions of your brand in AI-generated responses, even when the phrasing varies.

* **Brand name** — Enter your brand exactly as it appears in public-facing materials (for example, `Acme` rather than `Acme Inc.` if the short form is how buyers refer to you).
* **Category description** — Write one or two sentences describing what your company does and who it serves. This is used to seed prompt discovery and to scope competitor comparisons to your actual market. Be specific: *"B2B project management software for creative and marketing agencies"* will produce much better prompt suggestions than *"project management tool."*
* **Brand aliases and product names** — Optionally add alternative names, abbreviations, or flagship product names that AI engines might use when citing you. For example, if your company is *Acme Corporation* but your product is widely known as *AcmePM*, add both.

<Warning>
  Avoid adding overly generic terms as aliases. If your brand alias matches common dictionary words or competitor names, SurgeRank may return false-positive citation counts. Use aliases only for names that are distinctly and uniquely yours.
</Warning>

## Invite team members

SurgeRank is built for collaborative teams. To invite colleagues, go to **Settings → Team** and enter their email addresses. Each invitee will receive an email with a link to join your workspace.

You can assign one of three roles when sending an invitation:

| Role       | Access level                                                                                                                                                |
| ---------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Admin** | Full access to all settings, billing, domain configuration, team management, and all platform features |
| **Editor** | Can create, edit, and publish content via the AI Content Engine; can add and manage tracked prompts and competitors; cannot access billing or team settings |
| **Viewer** | Read-only access to all dashboards, reports, and content; cannot make changes to any settings or data |

You can change a team member's role or revoke their access at any time from the same **Settings → Team** page.
